Los Angeles Galaxy vs. FC Dallas: Rating the Galaxy Players |
MLS News | |||||

Bruce Arena's Los Angeles Galaxy didn't play well enough to get any points whatsoever Saturday night. So their 1-1 draw with FC Dallas proved to be quite flattering, given that the equalizer came from the unlikeliest of people in Pat Noonan. The Galaxy can't defend right, they gave up a would-be game-winning penalty, the counter-attack held them at bay, but most importantly, Los Angeles simply couldn't finish their chances, period. Now, I cover the Los Angeles Blues on USL PRO here on Bleacher Report, and I can tell you that the Blues would have scored more goals on FC Dallas—and that is saying something, given that the Blues have yet to win a match in their own league as of yet. But that's a different story. Here are my player ratings for the Galaxy in their 1-1 draw with FC Dallas.
Bill Gaudette 6.5 For the most part, it was a great debut for Bill Gaudette. He made four saves, did routing collections, and held FC Dallas's offense at bay. The only game missing from Gaudette is knowing how to stop penalties. Otherwise, this was an admirable debut.
Sean Franklin 5.5 Had some pace and did try to get some crosses forward. Defensively, it was a more-of-the-same night from Franklin.
David Junior Lopes 2 Not exactly Lopes's best performance in a Galaxy uniform. Nearly allowed FC Dallas to go out to a flying start just minutes into the match. Also tired out and had to be subbed. On top of all that, he was his own worst enemy at the hour mark, forcing Gaudette to foul Blas Perez in the box. Lopes threw this game away for LA, and he knows it.
A.J. DeLaGarza 7 Best player defensively, arguably of the entire team. DeLaGarza has the speed and skill to stop forward runs with pace. And he did his job to perfection. Very impressive performance from DeLaGarza.
Todd Dunivant 5 Nothing too remarkable from Dunivant. Average effort: not bad, not great...draw-worthy. On to the next player.
Landon Donovan 4.5 So much for Landon Donovan trying to be Fernando Torres against Barcelona. A shot in the 11th minute off the post said it all. His rating would have been a bit more respectable...if he had been allowed to convert the PK attempt in the 49th minute.
David Beckham 3 David. You have the manager of Team GB coming. Not a good way to impress the boss, now is it? In spite of Beckham possessin experience, he just doesn't have the know-how to make pinpoint deliveries and find someone to finish them. A sorry night for this fading Olympic hopeful. Juninho 4 Mike Magee 3.5 Magee was trying to do too much offensively and every long-distance attempt sailed wide of the mark. Here's a tip, Mr. Magee: how about you try to just cross a ball and pray to the football gods that someone in the white top with blue sash will finish the chance?
Robbie Keane 4 Miserable night for Keane. Not as bad as Beckham's, but it was just facepalm-worthy. The best chance of the night to break open the scoring, in the 49th minute of play...and it aims wide right. The next time Keane tries from the spot, it better be in a shootout. During a club friendly, if possible.
Edson Buddle 6 Buddle's role nowadays is to hold up play for Keane, Donovan, Beckham and so on and so forth, and he did that well. But his other role is to score goals. Where are the goals, Budson? Holding up play is not going to be enough when Seattle welcome you and the rest of the G's.
Chad Barrett 5 Adam Cristman 5 Both Barrett and Cristman, who came in as subs along with Pat Noonan, were responsible for setting up the sequence that spared the Galaxy some major-league blushes.
Pat Noonan 6 Scored the equalizer and opened his account in the process. Will we see more from Noonan this year? Read more MLS news on BleacherReport.com Source: Click Here
